What type of insulation does my house need?

There are many types of home insulation, from cavity wall and loft insulation to draught proofing.

How much does home insulation cost?

You could end up paying as little as £199 for professionally installed insulation that could halve your heating costs and carbon emissions, as well as making your home a more comfortable place to live in.

How does cavity wall insulation work?

Filling the gap between the two walls of a house with an insulating material massively decreases the amount of heat that escapes through the walls. It will help create a more even temperature in your home, help prevent condensation on the walls and ceilings and can also reduce the amount of heat that builds up inside your home during summer hot spells.

How is cavity wall insulation installed?

Cavity wall insulation is quick, clean and relatively inexpensive to install. It's injected into the cavity from the outside, which takes approximately three hours in a three bedroom semi-detached house.

What are the savings?

Around a third of all the heat lost in an uninsulated home is lost through the walls. If you have cavity walls, insulating them will make a great difference, and it could save you £130 - £160 a year on your fuel bills.

If all the houses with unfilled cavity walls had them filled, the energy saved could heat a staggering 1.7 million homes each year.

Cavity wall insulation can pay for itself within two years.

Why does my house need cavity wall insulation?

If you only choose one type of insulation for your house, make it cavity wall insulation. It's the best way to significantly reduce the energy needed to heat your home, and offers potential annual fuel savings of up to £160.

What difference will loft insulation make to my house?

A big one. If you currently have no loft insulation, you could save between £180-£220 on your heating bills, and 1.5 tonnes of CO2 emissions, per year.

In fact if everyone in the UK topped up their loft insulation to our high standards, £560m would be saved - enough to pay the annual fuel bills of over 640,000 families.

How is Lion's loft insulation installed?

Our mineral fibreglass is simply rolled between and over the joists to a recommended depth of 270mm. It effectively acts as a blanket, trapping heat rising from the house below.
